How To Satisfy Your Wanderlust While You’re Not Travelling
I have said it before, and I will say it again, I have the wanderlust gene and I love travelling – it really is one of my biggest passions. I love everything about travelling. Getting to head to the airport, flying, checking into the hotel, and exploring the area.
But how do I satisfy my wanderlust when I am not exploring the world? Good question. Obviously, I don’t travel all the time, even before COVID-19 I wasn’t travelling 24/7. In my non-travel time, I have come up with some activities that help me to keep the wanderlust alive. Here are 5 things I like to do when I am not travelling to keep the travelling spirit alive.
Five Things That You Can Do To Satisfy Your Wanderlust While You’re Not Travelling:
1. Enjoy a staycation
Just because you can’t go off and explore foreign cities and far away places, doesn’t mean that you can’t explore. Head out and enjoy your back yard. There are so many amazing places in our home countries, provinces, and towns for us to explore. Maybe think about planning a road trip to a close-by city, visiting a museum to see a new gallery, or enjoying a restaurant that you normally don’t go to.
In situations like COVID-19, when exploring our own areas is not allowed, then why not have a staycation in your home. You can take the whole day and spend it doing things that you love to do and make you feel rested. For example, if I was having a staycation in my home I would do the following:
- Wake up without an alarm
- Enjoy a nice homemade brunch
- Spend some time reading a book
- Spend time outside in the backyard or maybe out for a hike
- Do something creative, paint, make flower arrangements, collage etc.
- Enjoy take out for dinner, probably some Thai food or sushi
- Relax in the bath with a glass of red wine
- Paint my nails and do a face mask
- Make popcorn and watch a movie
2. Museums online
One of the best parts of travelling is getting to learn about different cultures and see beautiful art all over the world. Luckily you don’t need to lie your home to get a dose of culture, in fact you don’t even need to leave your bed! These 12 museums are offering free online access to their galleries. How awesome is that! So get comfortable in your bed and getting ready to learn at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and more.
3. Plan trips
If you can’t travel and see the places that you want to right now, why not spend some time planning trips that you want to take in the future? Jump on Pinterest and start creating a board of all the places and things you want to do around the world once you can travel again. Take the time to start planning what activities you want to do around the world and what attractions you want to see the most. Also, consider researching places that you never thought about visiting before. See if there is something that might make you reevaluate and make you want to explore that place.

4. Go through old photos and scrapbook
Another great way to satisfy your wanderlust is to go through your old photos. I love taking some time and looking at old photos from my adventures around the world. If you need something to help keep your travel passion alive, grab some old photos and create a scrapbook. You could make a paper one or a digital one on Canva or Pinterest.
5. Join my travel group
When you can’t travel and you really want to, chances are that you might be surrounded by people who do not understand your need to travel. Which is why joining travel groups on Facebook is a great idea! Travel groups are a great ways to talk about travel with other travellers who understand how passionate you are about travelling.
