A Guide To Creating Your Own Evening Routine
When talking about living proactively and planning your day on purpose, people tend to mention the power of having a good morning routine. While I do completely agree with the power of a good morning routine (click here to read my guide on creating your own morning routine), I also think that creating an evening routine is really important. An evening routine is a great chance to unwind from your day, spend less time in front of screens and can help you have a better sleep.
Relaxing Activities To Add To Your Morning Routine
Are you ready to create the perfect evening routine that can make you feel calm, and be well-rested? Perfect! Keep reading and discover 10 relaxing activities that are perfect for an evening routine.
1. Drink a cup of tea
Tea is amazing. A warm cup of non-caffeinated tea is a great way to calm your body and mind. I recommend some chamomile tea with honey – it puts me to sleep in minutes.
2. Read a book
Reading is always a good idea. Taking time to engage in a good book is a great way to entertain yourself with out looking at a screen.
3. Take a hot bath or shower
A hot bath and shower can be healing. If you have problems sleeping or had a rough day a hot bath or shower can be the perfect activity for the end of the day.
4. Journal
Enjoy some time journaling before bed. This could be as simple as listing what you are grateful for, writing about your day, or getting all of your emotions out on paper.
5. Diffuse essential oils
If you need some more calm in your evening routine consider enjoy the pure bliss that comes from diffusing essential oils. Lavender and eucalyptus are great options to help you destress and relax.
6. Stretch
A great way to relax before bed is to do some light stretches or a quick yoga routine. Even taking 5 minutes to do simple stretches can go along way for calming your body and mind.
7. Plan for tomorrow
Sometimes when we have a lot of things to do the next day, we can get overwhelmed and nervous the night before. A great way to help calm our anxiety about tomorrow is to take a moment and write out how your day is going to go.
8. Be creative
Ditch Netflix and social media and enjoy some time using your hands. You could make a collage, grab an adult colouring booking, write some poetry, or play an instrument.
9. Breathe
A great way to end your day is to take a moment to breathe. Throughout our day we are always on the go, which is why it is so important to set some time to just be in the moment and focus on our breathing.
10. Light candles
Lighting candles and watching the flames flicker is such a soothing activity. Before you go to bed, taking the time to light some candles can do wonders on your soul. Just remember to but them out before you go to bed – never fall asleep with candles still lit.

I love this, Cass! An evening routine is one thing I haven’t devoted enough energy to. I’ve done at least 7 of these things at some point (and I still color – although not in an adult book, but a kids’ book instead!). Ditching screens is a big part of it. Thanks for the reminder. As I added a glass of water to my morning routine, I’ll add tea tonight.
Awesome! Let me know how it goes!
