6 Outdoor Adventures To Go On In Greece

1. Hiking In Corfu

Enjoy an outdoor adventure in Corfu.

“Corfu is known for being one of the best beach destinations in Europe, but I’ll let you in on a little secret: It’s also one of the coolest hiking spots on the continent! Corfu is home to lush mountains that you can spend days hiking on (paired with incredible views of the Ionian, quaint villages, and mythological legends to keep you entertained).

Most of the island is ideal for hiking, but if you want the real deal, you can opt to stay at Lakones Village, which is one of the best places to stay in Corfu for hikers. One of the best hikes in the area is the Lakones Path, which takes you on a circuit near Paleokastritsa, which considered one of the most beautiful spots in Corfu. Another unmissable hike is the Donkey Track, which is a one-way trail through the woods from Paleokastritsa to Lakones and offers some of the biggest highlights in the area.” By Dani Ramos from No Hurry To Get Home.

2. 4-wheeling in Mykonos

“Many visitors to the gorgeous Greek island of Mykonos never leave Mykonos Town. While the blue doors and purple flowers of Mykonos Town are well worth an amble around the main town while enjoying the beautiful sights, to truly experience Mykonos you need to escape beyond the tourist bubble. A great way to do that is to rent a 4-wheeler in Mykonos Town and take it to beaches on the other sides of the island. This is possible to do even if you are spending just one day in Mykonos.

With the wind in your hair, you’ll zoom down back island roads and enjoy scenic vistas of the island’s countryside and the sparkling Aegean Sea. A popular beach to drive your 4-wheeler to is the fun and stunningly pretty Paradise Beach, which has a rock wall a little ways offshore that will make it look as if you’re walking on water.” Submitted by Gina from One Day In The City.

3. Lycabettus Hill – Outdoor Adventures To Go On In Greece

“One of the best outdoor adventures in Greece is climbing the Lycabettus Hill. This is a hill that you can find in the city of Athens. It is the highest point in the city, and from above you have a wonderful view of Athens! From there, you can see many of the sights of the city, such as the Acropolis, the Panathenaic Stadium, and the Temple of the Olympian Zeus.

This is also one of the most Instagrammable places in Athens. To get to the top, you can either use the walking paths or use the funicular. There is beautiful nature surrounding the walking paths, which is great! Going to the top with the funicular is the fastest way to get there.” Written by Dymphe from Dymabroad.

4. Navagio Beach

“Zakynthos, also known as Zante Island in Greece is a popular summer destination on the Ionian Ocean. Zante has many beautiful beaches but there is one that stands out above all others and that is Navagio Beach.

Navagio Beach is an island in itself and therefore the only way to get there is by boat. There are several tours available and many of them also offer snorkelling experiences, visits to the stunning blue lagoon or exploration of the brilliant white caves.

You might be drawn to this beach because of the clear turquoise waters, beautiful white sands, and tall limestone cliffs. But what makes this beach so unique is the huge, rusted shipwreck that takes centre stage of the shore.

While the full story of the shipwreck is unknown, common belief is that it the ship was abandoned following navy pursuit. The beach got its nickname of ‘smugglers cove’ due to the quantity of cigarettes it had on board when it was found, further fuelling the rumours of its torrid history.

An outdoor adventure in Greece is incomplete without a visit to Shipwreck beach.” By Kerry Hanson from VeggTravel.

5. Windsurfing in Lefkada

Lefkada is Ionian Island located in western Greece. That island is mostly known for its turquoise beaches, delicious Greek cuisine, and has lots of greenery areas, which is unusual to Greek Island.

Apart from stunning nature and cuisine, it’s also a popular place for kite- and windsurfing. Thanks to the moderate winds during the summer it’s a perfect location for these activities from beginners to more advanced surfers.

Two of the most popular places to try out kite- and windsurfing are on the northern side Agios Ioannis beach and in the south Vasiliki beach. There you will find several companies who can rent out the needed equipment or as a beginner, you can also take guided lessons.” Done by Erki from Genem Travels.

6. Hiking in Meteora

“One of the wonders of mainland Greece, Meteora is home to a collection of medieval monasteries, precariously built on huge rock karsts, stretching towards the sky. The scenery is stunning and the monasteries seem to hover in the air (one of the meanings of the name “Meteora). Many travellers to Meteora spend their time visiting the monasteries themselves, which can be very touristy. Hiking Meteora, however, is a very special experience.

The trails to the various monasteries and the village of Kastraki are accessible from the town of Kalabaka at the foot of the Meteora. The paths wind through trees before emerging into clearings with beautiful views of both the surrounding karsts and valleys and the monasteries at top. It’s possible to follow the trail to the entrances of the monasteries, giving an idea of what the path must have been like for early pilgrims.

The wood itself is quiet and you’ll be rewarded with views of the valleys on a regular basis. Just keep in mind that the trails are steep and not always well-marked. It can also get very hot in Greece, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear and take water with you.” Written by Roxanne from Faraway World.
