How Travelling Helped Me Fall In Love With Myself
I often talk about travelling and my adventures around the globe as life-changing experiences. If you haven’t ever gone on a proper adventure, you might think that I am being dramatic. While I do have a thrill for theatrics, when I say travelling has changed my life, I mean it. Honestly, that statement could not be any more true.
If you haven’t travelled a lot or had a chance to step out of a resort and experience the culture of another country, you might not understand just how magically transforming exploring our planet can be. But I am here to tell you, that once you open yourself up to learn from the world, you giving yourself the space to grow and change.
One thing (of many) that happened to me while travelling is that I fell in love with myself. Just like any relationship, when you go through hard times, try new things, and explore new ideas that are life-changing, your relationship will also change. And that goes for our relationship with ourselves. As we grow so does our relationship with ourselves and if you are growing into someone that you like, you are going to fall in love with that person. That is what happened to me and I highly recommend it.
Side note: If you want to know how healthy your relationship with your partner is and how compatible you really are, go on an international trip with them. Travel will bring out the real person and will allow you to see how they act out of their comfort zone and in difficult situations. Spending three hours at the airport will show you just how much patience your partner really has.
So, how did travel help me to fall in love with myself? Great question! Grab a hot drink and keep reading.
How Travelling Helped Me To Fall In Love With Myself
I was living my dreams.
Ever since I was a kid I dreamed about travelling the world. I spent most of my time dreaming I was in Australia exploring the outback or wandering the jungles of Peru. When I finally got to do both of those things, and a lot more, I was literally living my dreams.
Being able to live my dreams made me fall in love with myself because it made me trust that I could make my dreams happen and actually create a life that I was happy to live. Trust is one of the most important factors to a relationship, and by building it I was able to love myself more.
Also, by travelling and doing the things that I actually wanted to do, I was able to turn my dreams into a passion and just fell head over heels for this cool version of myself that bravely does what she actually wants to do.
I met myself.
Who are you? What a question eh?
Before travelling the world, I don’t think I really knew who I was. To be fair I start to travel when I was 18, so I didn’t have a whole lot of space to discover who I was before then. But being alone and out of my comfort zone, discovering new cultures and learning more about life every day, really allowed me to figure who I am.
I got to try new things and discover what I like and what I hate, away from my normal – away from people who live and think like me. And through this process, I was able to discover who I am and not just the person that society would like me to be, but who I really am at my core. It is a lot easier to love someone when we know who they are, and the same goes for ourselves.
I also was able to let my experiences change me into someone who I loved more.
I watched myself overcome.
Travelling the world is not all rainbows and sunshine. While travelling I have faced many trials some that really tested me. The good news is that I overcome all of them. Being in all of these situations forced me to get out of my comfort zone, face each issue head-on and come out the other side stronger.
Each dilemma I faced and conquered gave me something to be proud of. So many times I watched as I transformed into a warrior goddess and tackled each problem that was thrown at me. Being able to look back and see how far I have come really made me fall in love with myself.
I hope you get to travel soon, and on your adventures I hope you fall more and more in love with yourself.
Xoxo,
