Modern Day Wife’s Top 5 COVID-Friendly Destinations in Ontario this Wintertime

Hello! We are Modern Day Wife, and we are here to talk about our favorite spots around Ontario!

Modern Day Wife is for the woman who is looking to balance and have fun with her career, family, social life — being a partner, maybe she even has kids. For the lady who wants to do it all, learn tools from those with proven results and experience, and stay on-trend with important knowledge for her career, finances, family life, children and friends. We are located in California and Canada for women in all aspects of life.

Obviously this year has dampened everyone’s travel plans, but luckily there is still some sightseeing that can be done in a socially distant fashion. Here are our five fave destinations that are COVID-friendly for you to enjoy this wintertime!

1. Lake Eerie

The great outdoors are a great place to enjoy, but especially when outdoor activities are more COVID-friendly. Just an hour and a half south of Toronto, you can enjoy all the great things Lake Eerie has to offer.

Staying at a cottage on Lake Eerie can give you all the feels of a wintery vacation, but from the safety of your own circle. Port Stanley is a great beach town to enjoy with a safe distance from others. While Erieau just farther down is a smaller little beach town to enjoy.

Lake Eerie in the winter can give you spectacular sights. Seeing lighthouses blanketed in snow or taking a nature snowshoeing walk are great activities with little risk, just make sure to bundle up!

2. Niagara Falls

I couldn’t mention Lake Eerie and not put Niagara Falls on this list. They are open with COVID guidelines in place so you can feel safe. They are still having their Festival of the Lights this year with safety protocols. The route has driving and parking options for younger and older guests. Most restaurants are open as well to grab a cozy coffee or meal while you enjoy all the winter wonderland.

Most of their attractions are open and available to enjoy like the Butterfly Conservatory, the Skylon Tower, and the Niagara Skywheel. While this might seem like a tourist trap now is a great time to visit somewhere usually overrun by tourists.

3. Ottawa

Want to see a beautiful town filled with tons of things to do for everyone? Ottawa is your place. There are seven national museums and other capitol buildings. There is the largest naturally frozen skating rink in the world at Rideau Canal Skateway where you can enjoy the fresh air and keep your distance. Rideau Canal is also a UNESCO World Heritage site just to add more to your experience along the canal.

There are countless indoor and outdoor activities for all ages from restaurants, museums, hikes, and parks. In 2021, they will still be hosting the Winterlude from February 5-21.

4. Lake Superior

Aside from Lake Superior just being plain beautiful and the largest body of freshwater in the world, this is a great spot to see the Northern Lights especially reflecting on the lake. In Pukaskwa National Park’s boreal forest is where you’ll find the best spot. If you hire Naturally Superior Adventures they can help you set up camp in backcountry. However, if you are crunched on time the lights can usually be seen from the north shore’s Highway 17 between Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay.

5. Von Doeler’s Ranch

Doesn’t a horseback ride through the snow sound like a winter wonderland dream? At Von Doeler’s Ranch you can book a winter trail ride and even rent a cabin too! Open all year for horseback riding and cabin rentals this is the place to enjoy your holiday downtime.

They have packages for rides and cabins or even riding and learning about ranch life. If you want even more they also offer camping packages available with a ride as well. This is truly a place to get all the outdoor winter magic.
