5 Tips On How To Sleep Better

How well do you sleep every night? I am going to bet a little rough since you are reading a blog titled, 5 Tips On How To Sleep Better. There was a period in my life when I was having the worst sleeps every night. I have anxiety and sometimes, especially when I have a lot going on in my life, it is hard to turn my brain off and let my self fall asleep at night. Instead of turning off the light and heading straight into dreamland, sometimes my brain replays every moment of my life for hours and I lay there questioning every decision I have ever made.

Luckily, I have discovered some simple activities that help me to sleep better and wake up feeling 100%. And luckily for you, I am sharing them here in this blog post. Keep reading and discover my top tips for getting a better sleep.

Why It’s Important To Get Enough Sleep Every Night

I feel like over the past few years, society has tried to make sleep look overrated. Every time I am scrolling through social media I see someone talking about how they only sleep for four hours because of #hustle. Maybe, getting a ridiculously low amount of sleep works for some people (which is great – you do you boo), but I am here to tell you that there is nothing wrong with sleeping. In fact, sleep is super important for our overall well-being.

When we sleep our bodies actually repair our hearts and blood vessels. Getting enough sleep has been linked to better focus and performances throughout the day, improved mental and physical health and has positive effects on our social interactions.

5 Tips On How To Sleep Better

Moon milk

Skip pop, coffee and alcohol and start drinking tea in the afternoon and evenings. A great calming drink to drink before bed is moon milk aka a tea latte. My favourite moon milk is chamomile. All you have to do is heat up some almond milk (or any other milk of your choice) and honey. Then pour it into a cup with a chamomile tea bag and let it steep for at least 4 minutes. You can add cinnamon or nutmeg on top. This blend is so calming and helps me to sleep well and have pleasant dreams.

Turn off tv and devices

Looking at TV’s, iPads, computers, phones or any other electronic devices, can keep our brains awake. If you need help sleeping, turn off all your electronics at least an hour before bed. Spend time reading or being creative. If you need help creating an electronic free evening routine, click here to read my blog post, How To Create An Evening Routine

Journal

Sometimes when you can’t sleep well it is because there is too much on our minds. A great way to get rid of all that is going on in your head is to write it out on paper. Grab a notebook and pen and write out all the thoughts that are going on in your brain. This really helps me when I feel anxious and my mind is racing.

Meditate

Another great way to calm your mind is to spend a few minutes meditating. Light some candles, close your eyes and breathe away the stress. If you are new to meditation look for a guided meditation to improve sleep. Here is one that you might like. You can also download the Calm app, and listen to their guided meditations or bedtime stories.

Read

My favourite tip on how to sleep better is to read. There is nothing like a cup of moon milk and a good book to end the day. Studies have shown that reading a book before bed can improve sleep and can improve focus and boost creativity.

Getting enough rest is super important. If you are ready to have a better night’s sleep, try incorporating the 5 above tips into your daily routine.
