5 Tips To Starting Your Career As An Influencer

If you read my blog post, How To Answer The Big Question: What Should I Do With My Life, I shared a little bit about how I felt completely lost in my career life until I decided to take my blog and social media and turn them into my content creator/influencer business. Before finding my true calling in life, I always felt out of place at every job I had and felt like there was no career path that I wanted to pursue.

When I decided to turn my hobby blog into a business I finally started to feel excited about my career path. It took some solid brainstorm sessions and some trial and error, but eventually, I developed my blog’s mission, helping people love life through the elements of an adventure travel lifestyle, and instantly I knew that was my purpose. After discovering my purpose I used it to create my business plan and launch my career as a content creator and influencer.

I love being an influencer and I think that if anyone has any interest in trying to make it in this industry they should. It is wonderful to be able to work for myself, unleash my creative potential and get to promote brands that I love. There is so much flexibility to my job and daily routine and the ways to monetize my content seems endless.

If you are thinking about taking the leap of faith and becoming an influencer, here are five tips to help you get started.

Five Tips To Help You Make It As An Influencer

1. Join influencer marketing platforms

One of the smartest things that you can do when you are just starting out as an influencer, is to sign up for influencer marketing platforms. Influencer marketing platforms are sites that help connect influencers with brands that are looking to benefit from influencer marketing. One of my favourite sites, Intellifluence, has helped me to connect with companies and right from the start I was making $100 – $500 a month.

p.s. if you are a business owner or brand that is looking to partner with influencers, signing up for influencer marketing platforms like Intellifluence, is an easy way to find influencers to connect with.

2. Start creating content

When you start growing your audience you aren’t going to have heaps of brands flooding your inbox wanting to work with you. That’s ok! Start building your profile by creating content about products that you already use and love. Tag and share your content with the companies that you are promoting. Overtime these brands will start to notice you and you will have examples to show other brands that want to work with you in the future.

3. Focus on creating a community

When people first start out as an influencer their goal seems to be to gain as many followers as they can as fast as they can. While this isn’t a bad thing, it does have it’s flaws. Yes, you need to have followers to be successful as an influencer, but more importantly, you need engaged followers to be successful. Having 1,000 followers who all buy the products that you are promoting, is better than having 10,000 who don’t buy anything that you are promoting.

When you first start to grow your following you need to be trying to foster relationships with your followers so that you can gain their trust and start to have influence over them. A great way to do this is, is by focusing on growing a community not just gaining followers.

4. Be YOU

A huge marketing trend that we are seeing in 2020, is authenticity. More and more people are being drawn to people who creating content that is real. As influencers, we should be following this trend and making sure that we are being ourselves so that our audience can relate to us more. The world doesn’t need another copy-cat influencer. The world needs you to show up as your authentic self, and be the person you were born to be.

5. Take it seriously

Being an influencer is more than just posing with the latest diet tea. It is hard work, and if you really want to make it in the industry you need to put in the effort. Remember that being an influencer is a job, and just like any job to be taken seriously, you need to take it seriously. If you take the time to create your brand, create a business plan, network, market yourself, be consistent etc. you are going to eventually see the success that you are wanting.
